One-a-Day...for the Heart: God is Great

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable (Psalm 145:2-3 NKJV). While writing this One-a-Day, I was outside listening to the most fantastic concert of evening bird songs, as they harmonized and communicated with each other in the trees surrounding my deck.

They were not limited by soprano, alto, tenor, and bass vocal parts, and who was their director? Who gave them a voice? God! In Psalm 50:11, God says, "I know all the birds of the air, and all that moves in the field is Mine." And Psalm 104:12 says, the birds of the sky nest by waters; they sing among the branches. How great is our God! His capacity to do anything is limitless! Why do we ever doubt Him?

It’s good to reflect on God’s greatness and put His power and might in proper perspective, for we can easily forget that His greatness is truly unsearchable. Don’t even try to figure it out; just know that He will extend His greatness into your life if you trust Him and ask for it. Consider these scriptures, and take time to let them sink into your heart as you reflect on His unsearchable greatness:

  • Psalm 95:3-5 (NLT)--For the Lord is a great God, a great King above all gods. He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest mountains. The sea belongs to him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too.

  • 2 Chronicles 6:13-15 (NKJV)--[Solomon] knelt down on his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands toward heaven); and he said: "Lord God of Israel, there is no God in heaven or on earth like You, who keep Your covenant and mercy with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.”

  • 1 Timothy 6:15-16 (NLT)--For at just the right time, Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No human eye has ever seen him, nor ever will. All honor and power to him forever! Amen.

Is anything too difficult for such a great God as ours? No, nothing. The prophet Jeremiah answers that in Jeremiah 32:17 (NASB), “Oh, Lord GOD! Behold, You Yourself have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You.”

So as you begin your day or perhaps end it, meditate on The Passion Translation’s version of Psalm 86:8-10, and know that our great God cares for you!

God, there’s no one like You; there’s no other god as famous as You. You outshine all others, and Your miracles make it easy to know You. Lord Almighty, You are the one who created all the nations. Look at them—they’re all on their way! Yes, the day will come when they all will worship You and put Your glory on display. You are the one and only God. What miracles! What wonders! What greatness belongs to You!
