Nothing else will work. When sin is present, either before our salvation experience or after, nothing cleanses and washes it away except the blood of Jesus. Whatever sin is blocking a vibrant, active relationship with the Lord, there is no other substance or power that will remove the obstacle except the blood of Jesus.
It’s a simple act to ask the Lord to forgive us of sinful thoughts and deeds; in the simplicity of that action, a supernatural event occurs. Supernatural because He IS supernatural. No other god can accomplish the forgiveness and cleansing of sin afforded by Christ’s blood. Father God chose no other god—not Buddha or Baal or any of the thousands of Hindu gods or the god of Mormons—to become a human being, live a sinless life, bleed like a human when His flesh was broken, and die a human death. Only God’s Son qualified as the perfect sacrifice for all of humanity. Only His blood is the key to our redemption from a life destined for eternal damnation.
Our Heavenly Father displayed such incredible love by giving us His Son. No amount of money or service to God guarantees our place in Heaven. We need something immeasurably beyond our human capabilities and resources. We need the blood of Jesus.
Does the Lord speak to you? Do you sense His presence and peace from day to day? Has He ever opened the eyes of your understanding and made a scripture come alive inside of you? Have you ever awakened with a song of praise in your mind and on your lips because your spirit, an eternal being that does not need sleep, has been worshipping the Lord as you slept? Those are the effects of having a redeemed heart that the blood of Jesus has washed.
Blood is symbolic of life. Leviticus 17:11 (NLT) says, for the life of the body is in its blood. I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the Lord. That was an Old Testament recording of God’s instruction to Aaron for the people. The very essence of God’s supernatural life is in the blood of Jesus, and when Christ cleanses us with His blood, we have His supernatural life force actively working within us. That is how we can effectively accomplish supernatural things on this earth and reflect Christ to those around us.
The blood of Jesus is the supernatural catalyst that starts the redemption process of one’s body, soul, and spirit on a lifelong faith journey. The MESSAGE translation records this in Hebrews 9:14-15; think how much more the blood of Christ cleans up our whole lives, inside and out. Through the Spirit, Christ offered Himself as an unblemished sacrifice, freeing us from all those dead-end efforts to make ourselves respectable, so that we can live all out for God. The life is in the blood of Christ.
Part of a beloved hymn, O the Blood, by Gordon Mote (2015), is quoted below. It says it all:
O the blood, crimson love, price of life’s demand.
Shameful sin placed on Him,
The Hope of every man.
O the blood of Jesus washes me.
O the blood of Jesus, shed for me.
What a sacrifice that saved my life,
Yes, the blood, it is my victory.
