One-a-Day...for the Heart: Trust Him

A One-a-Day God-capsule to start the week...

Trust Him

We learn trust at a very early age—even before we can speak. A warm bottle was given to us before we had any idea what it was. Arms cradled us and rocked us to sleep many years prior to our understanding of comfort. We were nurtured and encouraged before it even dawned on us that we have purpose and importance. For most of us, someone cared deeply, and a bond of trust was formed without so much as a word from us.

Over a lifetime, our circle of trust grows to include many others beside our parents, and as trust develops, loyalty and commitment do as well. In much the same way as a parent assumes the responsibility of loving and caring for a baby when there is little-to-no reciprocal response, our Heavenly Father loved us before He even formed us in our mother’s womb. We will never know how faithfully He protected us over our lifespan, from the evil one, until we talk to Him in Heaven. We didn’t even know to trust Him before the reality of salvation through Jesus woke us up to a living Savior. All along, our Father had been loving us, watching us, caring for us.

Certainly Someone cared deeply, and we can trust that Someone forever—in times of fear or anxiety or sickness or death or need. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV). The Message translation says it like this, Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; He's the one who will keep you on track. Have you ever found the bottom of your heart? Where IS that? The phrase means that every part of your heart, which holds our capacity to love and trust, is given to someone. We can literally give every last part of our trust capacity to Someone who is completely trustworthy. And, we’ll be blessed for it! Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is in the Lord (Jeremiah 17:7). Trust Him, from the bottom of your heart.
