Our God is in heaven; He does whatever pleases Him, we are told in Psalm 115:3 (NIV). Right now, as you are reading this, God our Father is in heaven, seated on a magnificent throne that we are not capable of imagining because it is unbelievably grand and glorious. He is surrounded by an innumerable number of angelic and celestial beings as well as various groups of people who have died knowing and serving Christ. His Son, Jesus, is presently seated at the right hand of God, as evidenced in Colossians 3:1 (NIV): Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. The third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, is here on earth, sent by the Father to help and empower us, as evidenced in John 14:16, 26 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever… But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
A closer examination of God's location reveals that His throne will endure forever and ever (Psalm 45:6 NLT). If that’s not mind-blowing enough, ponder this, as the Apostle John tried to describe God’s throne, in Revelation 4:2-11 (NLT):
And instantly I was in the Spirit, and I saw a throne in heaven and someone sitting on it! The one sitting on the throne was as brilliant as gemstones — jasper and carnelian. And the glow of an emerald circled his throne like a rainbow. Twenty-four thrones surrounded him, and twenty-four elders sat on them. They were all clothed in white and had gold crowns on their heads. And from the throne came flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder. And in front of the throne were seven lamp stands with burning flames. They are the seven spirits of God. In front of the throne was a shiny sea of glass, sparkling like crystal.
In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back. The first of these living beings had the form of a lion; the second looked like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth had the form of an eagle with wings spread out as though in flight. Each of these living beings had six wings, and their wings were covered with eyes, inside and out. Day after day and night after night they keep on saying,
"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty —
the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come."
Whenever the living beings give glory and honor and thanks to the one sitting on the throne, the one who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down and worship the one who lives forever and ever. And they lay their crowns before the throne and say,
"You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power.
For you created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and
were created."
God is in heaven; He does whatever pleases Him. Whatever He creates--His throne, for instance--is something He takes pleasure in. It pleases Him to be surrounded by angels, celestial beings, heavenly music, jewels, and worship. There He takes His place on His throne; Jesus is in His place, at the right hand of the Father; and Holy Spirit is here, helping us. It’s as though a command has been issued across heaven and earth: TAKE YOUR PLACES, EVERYONE! The Godhead—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—set the precedent and occupy their places. What about us? God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired (1 Corinthians 12:18 NASB). TAKE YOUR PLACES, EVERYONE! Are you in your place in the Body of Christ?
